A coalition of advocates, community organizations, and individuals affected by crime will hold a press conference on January 23 at 11:30 a.m. The event aims to discuss legislative measures intended to enhance public safety through improved access to behavioral health services, housing, and other vital resources. The coalition will call on legislators to abandon ineffective policies in favor of evidence-based strategies that reinforce New Mexican communities.

The announcement comes after a public safety billboard campaign in Albuquerque emphasized the importance of community stability for public safety.

The coalition consists of various groups including the ACLU of New Mexico, Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, Bold Futures NM, Center for Civic Policy, Enlace Comunitario, Equality New Mexico (EQNM), New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness, New Mexico Eviction Prevention and Diversion, New Mexico Native Vote, Organizers in the Land of Enchantment (OLÉ), and the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico.

Scheduled speakers at the press conference include Adam Griego, a system-impacted individual; Daniel Williams from the ACLU of New Mexico; Lan Sena from the Center for Civic Policy; Marshall Martinez from Equality New Mexico; Monet Silva from the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness; along with other coalition members.

The press conference will take place at the New Mexico State Capital (Roundhouse), located at 490 Old Santa Fe Trail, Santa Fe, NM 87501 in Room 303.
