The Sierra Club's Rio Grande Chapter has issued a response following the release of New Mexico's draft methane rule. The organization expressed its views on the proposed regulations aimed at controlling methane emissions.
"The Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter is pleased that the state is taking action to reduce methane pollution," stated Camilla Feibelman, Director of the Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter. She further emphasized the importance of addressing climate change and protecting public health through such regulatory measures.
Feibelman also pointed out that while the draft rule represents progress, there are areas that require improvement. "We believe that these rules can be strengthened to better protect our communities and climate."
The draft rules have been published by the New Mexico Environment Department, and they aim to curb methane emissions from oil and gas operations in the state. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to address environmental concerns associated with fossil fuel extraction.
The Sierra Club's feedback will contribute to ongoing discussions about how best to implement effective regulations for reducing methane emissions in New Mexico.
