Aja N. Brooks becomes first Black president of New Mexico's State Bar

The State Bar of New Mexico has announced the swearing-in ceremony of its incoming President, Aja N. Brooks, Esq., set for December 11 at the New Mexico Supreme Court. Brooks will be the first Black President of the State Bar, becoming its 139th leader.

Erinna M. "Erin" Atkins, the current President of the State Bar, commented on Brooks' appointment: "Aja Brooks will be an outstanding leader for the State Bar of New Mexico. Her dedication to the organization is matched by her passion for the important work of the State Bar." Atkins expressed confidence in Brooks' future success and described her as an inspiration.

Richard B. Spinello, Executive Director of the State Bar, also shared his enthusiasm: "Having worked with Aja for several years, including as a former President of the New Mexico State Bar Foundation, I’m excited to welcome her perspective, her energy and her voice as the next President."

The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. Mountain Time at 237 Don Gaspar Ave., Santa Fe. The event will include members from both state leadership and legal communities. Additionally, it will be livestreamed on YouTube.
