Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández addresses Latino voices and shutdown impact in latest tweets

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, U.S. Representative for New Mexico's 3rd congressional district, addressed a range of topics in a series of tweets on October 21, 2025, including Latino representation in the arts and the ongoing government shutdown.

On October 21, Rep. Leger Fernández posted about the influence of the band Las Cafeteras on her social media account: "So inspired by Las Cafeteras! Their storytelling and music remind us how vital it is to uplift Latino voices — especially in today’s America. What would you do if you were president?"

Later that day, she commented on the impact of the federal government shutdown and healthcare costs: "Shutdown and higher premiums for you, swag bags for them. Priorities." The tweet suggests concern over disparities caused by political decisions during the budget impasse.

In another post on October 21, Rep. Leger Fernández announced an upcoming tele-town hall to discuss issues facing New Mexicans: "I am hosting a tele-town hall this Thursday to talk about the effects of the Republican shutdown on New Mexico, the healthcare crisis, and most importantly, to hear from you. Join me at 5:30PM! Sign up below to get a call at the start of the event."

Leger Fernández has represented New Mexico’s 3rd congressional district since winning her first election in 2020 against Alexis Martinez Johnson with approximately 58.7% of the vote to Johnson’s 41.3%. She secured re-election in both 2022—again defeating Martinez Johnson—and in 2024 against Sharon Clahchischilliage.
