The Biden-Harris Administration has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for New Mexico, following a request from Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. This decision will unlock federal funds to aid recovery efforts in Chaves County, which recently experienced severe flooding.

"The impacts of this historic flooding have been devastating for this community, and I am grateful to the Biden-Harris administration for acting quickly to provide support," stated Gov. Lujan Grisham. "We must work together and do all we can to assist Chaves County in their recovery."

The declaration will extend assistance to individuals, households, and businesses affected by the floods in Chaves County. Additionally, public assistance will be available for emergency work and repairing or replacing disaster-damaged facilities. This includes debris removal, emergency protective measures, and direct federal assistance.

Residents of Chaves County impacted by the flooding from October 18-21 will soon be able to apply for FEMA assistance.
