Today, Democratic Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced the groundbreaking of a new $10 million taxpayer-funded abortion clinic in Doña Ana. The announcement was made via a tweet on her X account that began with, “It’s a beautiful morning in New Mexico.”

The clinic is designed to attract out-of-state abortion tourism and will offer late-term surgical abortions and gender transition procedures. This development follows a 2023 law that removed parental notification requirements for minors seeking abortions or transgender procedures.

Democratic Representative Gabe Vasquez, who represents the district where the new clinic is located, attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

Ash Soular, spokeswoman for the Republican Party of New Mexico, issued a statement criticizing the move: “New Mexicans are suffering from failed Democratic policies that have made groceries unaffordable, increased violent crime, and left our children with the worst education in the nation. Instead of addressing these pressing issues, Democrats opened a new 10-million-dollar taxpayer-funded abortion and gender transition clinic to attract out-of-state patients."

Soular further commented on what she described as extreme policies: “The Democratic Party of New Mexico’s promotion of late-term abortion is nothing short of extreme. In 2021 Democrats passed a law allowing abortion up to birth in New Mexico and in 2023, Democrats in the legislature voted against parental notification if a child seeks abortion or gender transition procedures."

She also criticized Rep. Vasquez's support for the clinic: "The misplaced priorities by Democrats are perfectly summed up by Democratic Rep. Gabe Vasquez claiming to champion women by celebrating the opening of the new taxpayer-funded late-term abortion clinic while effectively enabling child and women sex trafficking to take hold in our state by voting multiple times not to shut down the border."

Soular concluded with a call for change: "It’s time for a new direction in New Mexico. Republicans will continue to fight to protect women and children and build a solid foundation for them to be successful through pro-family policies. If you do not align with the Democratic Party’s main economic development plan which is abortion and gender transition tourism, vote for Republicans who will prioritize common sense leadership.”
