New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on August 20, focusing on healthcare issues. Following her address, the Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce released a statement critiquing her policies.

“It’s odd that Governor Lujan Grisham would be asked to speak at the DNC about healthcare when she’s turned New Mexico into a hostile state for doctors,” said Pearce.

Pearce argued that Lujan Grisham's medical malpractice policy has driven doctors out of New Mexico, resulting in long wait times for residents seeking care. He highlighted what he described as critical doctor shortages that have worsened over the past four years. Additionally, Pearce criticized the governor's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that it was rated poorly and associated with a high death rate.

“It is so bad that even after Lujan Grisham legalized abortion up to birth, abortion providers still refused to take up her offer to come practice in New Mexico,” Pearce added.

Pearce also addressed broader healthcare issues, attributing rising premiums to Democratic policies and suggesting that these have forced people to choose between essential needs like food and medical care. He claimed that Democrats' solutions involve "communist-style price controls."

In contrast, Pearce outlined the Republican approach: “Republicans will reduce inflation to lower healthcare costs, protect private healthcare ensuring high-quality services through competition, and will keep Medicare and Medicaid solvent for every New Mexican who needs it.”

He concluded by asserting that Republicans are better positioned on key issues such as border security, crime, and the economy. “We’re going to see very competitive races up and down the ballot this year,” he stated.
