Mayor Eric Enriquez, City of Las Cruces | City of Las Cruces

The City of Las Cruces Parks maintenance team will be removing cottonwood trees at Salopek Park, located at 464 Salopek Boulevard. The removal is necessary due to a severe mistletoe infestation affecting six to seven declining cottonwood trees, two of which are already dead. The work will commence on the east end of the park and progress south towards the arroyo, lasting approximately two weeks.

Not all infested trees will be removed; four treatable trees throughout the park will receive treatment in late fall or early winter. To maintain overall tree health, Parks will introduce tree species with higher pest resistance during the next planting season, expecting to plant up to 30 new trees as part of ongoing improvements to Salopek Park.
