The New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services (NMDVS) is collaborating with the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) to develop a coordinated care system for service members, veterans, and their families in New Mexico. Supported by the New Mexico State Legislature, this initiative is currently in its second phase.
In the initial phase, IVMF assessed the needs of the military-connected community and evaluated the feasibility of a coordinated care system. The assessment revealed that veteran-serving organizations see value in such a network but have questions about its implementation.
Currently, IVMF is engaging with NMDVS and other state agencies to gather feedback from veteran-serving organizations across New Mexico. This input will inform a roadmap for implementing the care network. A series of virtual focus groups are scheduled this month to collect community insights on developing this statewide network.
The focus groups aim to gather input on sustainability, leadership, and regional collaboration approaches for the network. "Those who work with the New Mexico Veteran population understand their needs best," said a representative from NMDVS. They emphasized that diverse voices are crucial to designing an effective network.
Virtual focus group sessions are set for Thursday, June 12, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM MDT, and Wednesday, June 18, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM MDT. Participation is encouraged to ensure broad representation in shaping the care network.
