The City of Las Cruces will break ground on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, for Fire Station 9, a $9.4 million project approved by voters in 2022 through a General Obligation Bond. The station is intended to service the fast-growing neighborhoods north of Highway 70 on the city’s East Mesa.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at the site of the new Fire Station 9, located at 3900 Central Ave., off Sonoma Ranch Boulevard. The public is invited to attend.
Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez, District 5 Councilor Becky Corran, and Fire Chief Jason Smith are scheduled to speak during the event.
Fire Station 9 has been highly anticipated due to rapid growth in what is considered one of the fastest-growing parts of Las Cruces. In recent years, hundreds of homes have been constructed north of Highway 70, off Sonoma Ranch Boulevard, and there has been significant development in the business district between Sonoma Ranch and Rinconada Boulevard.
Construction of the 12,000 square-foot Fire Station 9 will commence in September with an expected completion date in early 2026.
The ceremony will be streamed live on the City’s YouTube Channel and Facebook page.
