The Las Cruces Fire Department is now accepting applications for its next training academy, set to begin in February 2025.
The fire academy will commence on Feb. 24, 2025. If enough qualified applicants are received, a second fire academy may be initiated in July 2025. Each academy could accommodate up to 20 Fire Cadets per class.
Applicants must submit their applications electronically through the City’s website. Successful candidates are required to pass a written examination, an acrophobia test, background investigation, medical examination, and physical ability test.
Fire Cadets will learn various skills including fire suppression techniques, emergency medical services, hazardous material response, and vehicle extrication techniques among other essential lessons necessary for becoming a successful firefighter.
A detailed list of qualifications, duties, and responsibilities is available on the job announcement for Fire Cadet on the City’s website. The salary for full-time Fire Cadets during the academy is $45,136 annually.
Graduates of LCFD’s fire academy progress to full-time firefighter positions at one of eight Las Cruces fire stations. Construction on the City’s ninth fire station is scheduled to begin in September.
