The theme for this year’s State of the City address is “A Future Worth Fighting For.”

Day in and day out, the Animal Welfare Department team is working to make Albuquerque a brighter future for all pets and the families who love them and will give them homes.

Here are a few of the Animal Welfare Department's accomplishments:

- Made improvements to animal facilities, including shelter site upgrades, spacious play yards, dedicated bonding areas, rejuvenated landscaping, and an HVAC system upgraded to refrigerated air.

- Revamped its website and launched a new dashboard featuring real-time operational and pet outcome statistics to promote transparency and build trust with the CABQ community.

- Held spay/neuter surgery blitzes for low-and moderate-income residents, where 725 community-owned pets were spayed and neutered.

- Implemented free personalized pet tags for pet owners of dogs and cats.
