The City of Albuquerque is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Palo Duro Senior Center, marking five decades of service, camaraderie, and enrichment opportunities for older adults in the community.

To commemorate the occasion, Palo Duro Senior Center will host various events throughout the week. Activities include bingo, karaoke, and a special 50th Anniversary Dance. An Open House will take place on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., allowing non-members to explore and learn about the center.

“Palo Duro Senior Center has been a cornerstone of this community for 50 years, a welcoming third space for our seniors to stay active, engaged, and connected,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This milestone gives us a chance to reflect on its enduring impact on the lives of countless Albuquerque families and countless more to come.”

As Albuquerque’s first and oldest senior center, Palo Duro has a long history of offering programs and services designed to enhance quality of life for local families. The center provides senior meals, social events, educational workshops, and volunteer opportunities that promote well-being and independence among older adults.

“Our senior and multigenerational centers serve as places of friendship, learning, and support for many, and we are thrilled to celebrate this 50th anniversary with the community,” said Anna Sanchez, Director of Senior Affairs. “It’s also fitting that 50 is the same age you have to be to join Palo Duro Senior Center; so we’ve finally caught up with our members!”
