Albuquerque is experiencing decreases in three major gun-related crime categories so far in 2024, compared to the same period in 2023.

“We’re seeing a significant reduction in murders involving firearms, shootings with injury, and gunshots,” APD Chief Harold Medina said. “The combination of proactive crime-fighting operations and successful investigations is starting to pay off. We have more work to do, but these crime stats are encouraging.”

The number of non-negligent murders involving firearms is down 32% year-to-date between 2023 and 2024.

The number of non-fatal shootings is also down with 11% fewer gunshot victims in 2024 compared to 2023.

Gunfire captured by ShotSpotter activations is down 26% from January through July 2024, compared to the same period in 2023.
