The City of Albuquerque held a groundbreaking ceremony today for a new multigenerational center in northwest Albuquerque, near Cibola Loop and Cuba Rd NW. The center aims to provide access to city services and programs for residents of all ages, including youth, seniors, and families. It is the first of several planned amenities at the site.

The nearly 15,000 square foot building will be constructed in phases. The initial phase will include a 2,701 sq. ft. multipurpose room, meeting room, and classroom, with provisions for future developments.

"We know it’s important for seniors and youth to have access to amenities and programs that are convenient and close to home," said Mayor Tim Keller. "As the Westside continues to grow with new development and quality of life enhancements underway in the area, this new multigenerational center will serve as a bustling community hub for folks of all ages."

This facility will be the fourth multigenerational center operated by the Department of Senior Affairs. It joins Manzano Mesa, North Domingo Baca, and the newly constructed Santa Barbara Martineztown Multigenerational Center, which is expected to open soon.

"The purpose of our multigenerational centers is to bring generations of Albuquerque residents together," said Anna Sanchez, Director of Senior Affairs. "We are excited for this opportunity to bring our services to northwest Albuquerque, including our senior meals, recreational activities, and youth programs."

The multigenerational center is anticipated to open in 2025.
