The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) is offering free microchips and custom pet tags for dogs and cats to all Albuquerque residents. The service will be available from June 1 through July 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Westside and Eastside shelters. No appointment is necessary.
Residents must be at least 18 years old and have a valid ID to microchip their pets. The microchip will be registered to the ID holder, with the provided information serving as the primary means of locating the owner if the animal is lost or recovered. It is crucial to keep the details linked to your pet’s microchip current for successful identification.
"Having the combination of microchips and ID tags is the best solution for keeping your pet safe if they become lost," stated an AWD representative. "If you haven’t already done so, take care of these simple measures today to prevent a tragedy of not reuniting with your pet."
