The East Gateway of Albuquerque was a spectacle of vibrant sights, sounds, and tastes on Saturday, May 11, as it played host to the Second Annual Singing Arrow Multicultural Arts Festival. The event took place at the Singing Arrow Community Center and Park and was co-sponsored by Council District 9 City Councilor Renée Grout and the City of Albuquerque Youth and Family Services Department.

The festival was a veritable feast for the senses with a wide array of entertainment, international cuisine, and art from various cultures. Attendees were treated to performances that spanned a broad spectrum of cultural expressions. From the familiar local strains of Mariachi music performed by Orlando Marquez and his ensemble to flamenco performances by the National Institute of Flamenco, the festival showcased an impressive diversity.

Other notable performances included those by the Zuni Water Strider Dancers and the Quan Minh Temple Lion Dancers who captivated audiences with their strength, precision, and grace. The Hornet Steel Band's tropical melodies had dozens dancing while others swayed to the energetic performances by the Cameroonians of New Mexico. Seniors found nostalgia in the Tin Pan Alley songs rendered by Michael and Judy Muldawer.

Councilor Grout expressed her fondness for the event saying, "This is one of my favorite events. Any day is a good day to get outdoors and enjoy good music and friends. We have so many talented artists in our area, I love giving them a showcase for their work."

Echoing similar sentiments was Natasha Baca, manager of the Holiday Park Community Center and one of the event organizers. She said: “This event holds a very special place in my heart. It was always a goal to bring as many people and cultures together for a good time. Seeing everyone, young and old be here today to enjoy this made the hard work worth it.”
