City leaders in Albuquerque gathered yesterday evening to rename the East Central Health & Social Service Center after late City Councilor Ruth Adams. The initiative, called “Stories of Us,” aims to honor impactful leaders in the community. Mayor Tim Keller expressed, “Ruth Adams made a lasting impact on our community.”

Ruth Adams, the first woman to represent District 6 and a two-term City Councilor, advocated for various community projects. Her daughter Liz Adams noted, “Ruth loved people, she cared about people, and we have to remember that life is about community.”

Councilor Nicole Rogers acknowledged Ruth Adams' dedication to improving the lives of residents in Southeast neighborhoods. The Ruth Adams Health & Social Service Center offers essential resources, including primary care, behavioral health services, and public health resources.

The renaming of the center highlights Adams' commitment to community welfare. The ABQ Stories of Us initiative, launched during Mayor Keller’s 2023 State of the City Address, celebrates individuals who have positively impacted Albuquerque's cultural, social, and economic landscape. Suggestions for renaming public spaces can be submitted on the Stories of Us website.
