Steve Cortes has announced a new documentary titled "BLOWN AWAY: Exposing the Wind Scam," which examines the environmental and economic implications of wind energy, advocating instead for natural gas as America's future energy source. The announcement was made via a post on X.
In the documentary, produced by Cortes Investigates, Cortes argues that the push for wind energy is driven by political agendas rather than practical energy needs. Filmed in New Mexico, home to America’s largest wind project, he describes wind turbines as "one gigantic, expensive scam" dependent on fossil fuels for both construction and maintenance. He claims that supporters of the wind industry mislead the public with false promises of clean energy. In his show Landman, he points out the contradiction in labeling wind as "clean" given its reliance on oil and gas throughout its lifecycle.
According to Cortes, natural gas presents a more realistic and environmentally responsible path forward due to America's extensive underground reserves. He is joined by local energy advocates like Paul Gessing from the Rio Grande Foundation in asserting that natural gas provides affordable, reliable power and well-paying jobs — crucial in economically challenged areas such as the Navajo Nation. Both Gessing and Cortes describe wind turbines as "scenery pollution" that occupy large land areas while failing to produce power efficiently or consistently.

The documentary also features Myron Lizer, former Vice President of the Navajo Nation, who highlights support within Native American communities for fossil fuel development due to its role in fostering economic self-reliance and funding essential services. Lizer states that Native tribes are uniquely positioned to manage natural resources responsibly and criticizes wind projects built on tribal land as unsustainable and costly. He remarks on the significant costs associated with maintaining wind turbines.
Cortes connects the debate over wind energy to broader national issues concerning economic competitiveness and technological advancement. He warns that without reliable energy sources — particularly for technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor manufacturing — the U.S. risks lagging behind countries such as China. He dismisses concerns about climate change as exaggerated, arguing that fossil fuels, especially natural gas, are essential to meet America's growing energy demands.
Steve Cortes is identified as the founder of the League of American Workers and a former adviser to Donald Trump's campaign. He also served on President Trump's Hispanic Advisory Council.
