New Mexico State University’s Agricultural Experiment Station is set to launch its annual field day season at the Leyendecker Plant Science Research Center on May 22. The event will offer attendees the opportunity to delve into various research areas, including long-term soil health, guayule crops, chile breeding for mechanization, and agrivoltaics to safeguard chile crops from curly top.

John Idowu, NMSU Extension agronomy specialist, highlighted that scientists at the center will be on hand to address inquiries related to ongoing research. He mentioned, "Information and updates on best practices for irrigation, soil management, and crop production will be shared."

Dave Lowry, NMSU program operation director, expressed hopes that participants would gain practical knowledge applicable to their own programs, regardless of scale. He stated, "Whether they are large acreage or backyard farming, it is always our hope that when stakeholders leave our field day, they walk away with some practical knowledge they can implement into their own programs."

The Leyendecker field day will commence with registration at 7:30 a.m. on May 22 at the research center in Las Cruces. Field tours will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon, followed by a provided lunch. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
