Students with New Mexico State University’s Aggie Fashion Club are ready to showcase their creativity at the upcoming Sustainable Fashion Show. The event, taking place on April 18 at the Aggie Lounge in Corbett Center Student Union, aims to promote sustainability through upcycled and recycled designs inspired by literature. Maxine Lucero, fashion merchandising and design program assistant in Family & Consumer Sciences, highlighted the importance of the event, stating, “The fashion industry has a history of neglecting the environment with the increase of fast fashion, which creates large amounts of waste that end up in landfills.”

The theme of this year's show is “Book it to the Runway,” emphasizing the fusion of fashion and literature in the students' designs. Lucero mentioned that students have embraced innovative ways to repurpose materials and clothing to create unique pieces. The designs to be showcased include a variety of unconventional materials such as chip bags, curtains, upcycled denim, pillowcases, playing cards, and more.

With approximately 40 NMSU students participating in the event, over 20 have submitted their designs, while the remaining students will take on the role of models. In addition to the fashion display, the show will also feature live music, a photo booth, free flowers, and senior recognitions. The event is open to the public with limited seating available.
