New Mexico State University’s Cooperative Extension Service is gearing up to hold the 2024 fruit growers workshop on March 15 at the Alcalde Community Center. The event aims to educate fruit growers on methods for orchard improvement, regardless of the size of their operation.
Santa Fe County Extension Agriculture agent, Tom Dominguez, expressed, “This is an opportunity to enhance fruit growing knowledge and learn about new and upcoming varieties.”
The workshop will feature a range of sessions covering various topics important to fruit growers. Attendees can expect to gain insights into profitable and simple tree fruit and berry growing tips, testing for nutrient deficiencies, lessons learned from hosting u-pick cherry and apple festivals, saffron cultivation, fruit pests, pollinators, integrated pest management principles, table grape varieties, and more. The event will conclude with a walk and talk through the Alcalde Science Center farm.
To attend the workshop, a registration fee of $20 is required, which includes lunch and materials. Preregistration is mandatory and must be completed by March 8. Those interested in participating can register by calling 505-471-4711.
