County Assessor Damian Lara has implemented a new policy that brings fair and equitable accounting to his staff. Both union and non-union employees are now entitled to the same assessor certification and corresponding pay benefit. This move comes after Bernalillo County entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 18, Local 2260 AFL-CIO, which represents white-collar employees.
Assessor Lara encouraged all his staff to participate in an extensive training program, which, when completed, certifies every employee as an appraiser. As a result, each employee is now eligible for a $9,000 pay incentive. The County Manager and AFSCME President have signed the memorandum this week, solidifying this agreement.
Assessor Lara expressed his commitment to his staff, stating, "I believe in the talent and dedication of my entire team. It is only fair that they all have access to the same opportunities for professional growth and financial benefits."
This new policy aims to create a more inclusive and supportive work environment within the Assessor's Office. By providing equal access to certification and financial incentives, Assessor Lara is ensuring that all employees have the opportunity to excel in their careers.
