Sandia National Laboratories has reported a fiscal year 2023 economic impact totaling nearly $4.8 billion, marking an increase of $559 million from the previous year.
According to a press release by Sandia National Laboratories, the institution made significant contributions to the economy, including paying $114 million in gross receipts taxes to the state of New Mexico and disbursing $1.08 billion to small business suppliers. The laboratory's leadership plans to further discuss these economic impacts and highlight achievements with small businesses during a news conference scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Innovation Parkway Office Center in Albuquerque, NM.
Labs Director James Peery said in the press release, "For more than seven decades, Sandia Labs’ dedication to outstanding service has significantly contributed to the national good. Our collaboration with a wide range of suppliers has been crucial to our achievements. Engaging with small businesses fuels creativity, creates jobs and introduces advancements that enhance the quality of life."
Zach Mikelson, small business program manager at Sandia National Laboratories, also expressed his views on the matter. He said in the press release that "Small businesses are the backbone of the U.S. economy and the capabilities they offer are vital to our national security mission. Sandia continues to be committed to small businesses both nationally and locally here in New Mexico." Mikelson further added that "The partnership between Sandia and small businesses strengthens our community and ensures support for Sandia’s mission for years to come."
