The city of Albuquerque has announced the commencement of Vexus Fiber's high-speed, fiber-to-the-home internet service in select areas. The initial locations include neighborhoods housing over 1,000 homes and businesses situated north of I-40 and west of I-25. This marks the beginning of Phase 1 in Vexus Fiber's rollout of its high-speed fiber broadband network in the city.
According to an agreement with the city of Albuquerque, Vexus Fiber is set to undertake a comprehensive expansion plan aimed at covering the entire city by 2028. Construction is currently underway in several areas, with plans to extend high-speed fiber-optic broadband services to 3,000 homes and businesses by year-end. As per a press release by the city of Albuquerque, residents and businesses included in Phase 1 can now subscribe to services via Vexus Fiber's website. Residential internet plans start at $39.99 per month with speeds reaching up to 1 Gig / 1 Gig.
Catherine Nicolaou, Broadband Program Manager for the city, emphasized the importance of supporting a competitive marketplace for meeting Albuquerque’s broadband needs. "Increased internet availability increases our ability to have meaningful connections with so many important things - health, work, learning, business, entertainment, other communities and people," said Nicolaou.
Vexus Fiber is a telecommunications company specializing in providing high-speed fiber services. It offers fiber internet, IP television, and digital telephone options for both residential and commercial clients. Jim Gleason, CEO of Vexus Fiber shared his optimism about the project’s future prospects in Albuquerque. "This is just the start of what we’re building in Albuquerque," Gleason said.
