Albuquerque unveils 2023 Climate Action Implementation Report

The city of Albuquerque recently declared the publication of its second Climate Action Plan Implementation Report (CAP-IR). Released annually, each report details the progress made in a variety of strategies throughout the fiscal year, encompassing sustainable structures, renewable energy, eco-friendly transportation, recycling and waste management, economic development, and communities and resources focused on climate awareness. This initiative represents Albuquerque's continuous commitment to combating climate change.

Examining the content of this recent report reveals some insightful information. The 2023 Climate Action Plan Implementation Report (CAP-IR) highlights municipal energy efficiency retrofits, projected to yield an annual savings of $54 million in combined energy and operations; substantial grants exceeding $22 million to enhance public transportation access and electric vehicle infrastructure; a partnership with the National Resource Defense Council to assess food waste, uncovering approximately 112,000 tons wasted annually in Albuquerque; and the organization of three community engagement sessions by the Sustainability Office, addressing eight initiatives featuring 12 speakers and garnering over 90 suggestions for improvement.
