The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation (CRSF), in partnership with ExxonMobil, is launching two new STEM centers at public elementary schools in central New Mexico. The first opening, at El Rito Elementary School, will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Nov. 14; the second opening at Marie Hughes Elementary School in Albuquerque, will be held from 1:15 to 3 p.m. Nov. 15.
"The STEM centers, developed to stimulate students' interest in science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on learning, will be equipped with modern technology, custom curriculum and engaging activities", according to a recent Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation press release.
The opening event at El Rito Elementary School will begin with welcoming speeches from key figures including Scott Elder, Superintendent of Albuquerque Public Schools; Marvin Macauley, Superintendent of Mesa Vista Consolidated School District; Ashley Wagner and Amanda Sandoval from ExxonMobil; and Shannon Johnson, VP Networking and Partnerships at the Cal Ripken Sr., Foundation.
"The opening at Marie Hughes Elementary School will commence at 1:20 p.m.", said Jenna Bludworth, Principal of Marie Hughes Elementary. Nicole Baum added that the ribbon-cutting ceremony would take place at 1:45 p.m., followed by STEM demonstrations until 3 p.m.
According to the release,"the collaboration between CRSF and ExxonMobil represents an investment in the education of central New Mexico's youth", providing them with resources and opportunities to explore the world of STEM education.
In conclusion "the Cal Ripken Sr., Foundation supports underserved communities by building Youth Development Parks and STEM Centers" said the foundation release.
