The City of Albuquerque has partnered with the United Association (UA) of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 412 for the 31st Annual Project HEAT'S ON, according to a press release by the City of Albuquerque. Project HEAT'S ON, which stands for Handicapped and Elderly Assistance to Service Our Neighbors, is a nationwide effort aimed at helping vulnerable populations stay warm during the winter season.

The Department of Senior Affairs in Albuquerque is working in collaboration with Local 412 to identify eligible participants and prioritize those who are most in need. Through this partnership, volunteers from UA Plumbers and Pipefitters nationwide contribute their time and skills to assist low-income or disabled senior homeowners. The volunteers provide a range of services, including winterizing air conditioning units, installing and testing smoke detectors, changing light bulbs, activating furnaces, and ensuring carbon monoxide safety.

Anna Sanchez, the Director of Senior Affairs, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, "Not only are we helping keep families warm, but we’re also helping older adults in the community stay safe and remain independent in their homes." She also expressed gratitude for the partnership with Local 412, which has allowed them to provide this essential service to hundreds of Albuquerque seniors over the years.

UA Local 412 Plumbers and Pipefitters, established in 1910, has been dedicated to safeguarding the nation's health by offering plumbing, pipefitting, and HVAC services for over a century. Their highly trained members collaborate with various contractors in construction, spanning heavy industrial, commercial, and residential sectors.

Robert Barker, the Local 412 HVAC/R Training Coordinator, emphasized the dedication of Local 412 to helping the elderly community. He said, "From starting up furnaces for the elderly to putting on charity events for people in need, we care about our fellow New Mexicans."

The collaboration between the City of Albuquerque and Local 412 for Project HEAT'S ON is an important initiative that not only provides warmth but also ensures the safety and independence of elderly residents in the community.
