The grand opening of the Luna County Public Health Office in Deming, New Mexico was celebrated by the New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) and Luna County Government. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on September 22, 2023, and was attended by representatives from both organizations, as well as the Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce.
Located at 1510 South Slate St., the new facility replaces the previous location on South Silver St. The Luna County Public Health Office offers a range of services, including immunizations, breast and cervical cancer screenings, harm reduction services, and testing for sexually transmitted diseases. It also provides support through the Families First program, which focuses on prenatal health and assistance during pregnancy. The site is home to the New Mexico Department of Health's Children's Medical Services program, catering to children and youth with special healthcare needs. Additionally, it offers the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) special supplemental nutrition assistance program.
DOH Secretary Patrick Allen expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in making the new facility a reality, stating that it will improve healthcare access and outcomes for Luna County residents. The Luna County Public Health Office received funding from various sources, including the DOH, New Mexico appropriations, community development block grant funds secured through the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments, and allocations from the Luna County government.
