Starting on September 25th, at-home COVID-19 tests will be available for free to Americans. The Biden administration has allocated $600 million for the production of these tests and is relaunching a website where individuals can order up to four tests per household. These tests are specifically designed to detect the currently circulating COVID variants and are expected to be available for use by the end of the year.

The New Mexico Department of Health is strongly urging individuals aged 6 months and older to receive a COVID-19 vaccine update as a precautionary measure for the upcoming autumn and winter seasons. This initiative by the Biden administration aims to prevent any potential shortages during the expected increase in coronavirus cases during colder months. The tests provided will include guidance on how to confirm extended expiration dates.

Patrick Allen, secretary for New Mexico Department of Health, emphasizes the importance of proactive testing, stating, "Don't wait for symptoms to appear! Get ahead of the curve with free COVID-19 tests delivered to your doorstep. Order now and stay one step ahead of the virus."

In addition to at-home testing, COVID-19 vaccinations remain available at no cost, accessible through private health insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. Uninsured individuals can also obtain the vaccine free of charge through participating health centers. The CDC recommends that everyone, especially adults aged 65 and older and individuals in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, should receive the flu vaccine as co-infections of COVID-19 and the flu can lead to severe outcomes.

Miranda Durham, MD, New Mexico Department of Health Medical Director, encourages individuals to "double their protection and peace of mind" by getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and the flu this season to ensure the safety of both themselves and their community.
