Albuquerque Public Schools proudly announced that Monte Vista Elementary School has been recognized as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The prestigious Blue Ribbon School designation was awarded to Monte Vista on September 19, 2023, making it one of only three schools in New Mexico and 353 schools nationwide to receive this honor in 2023.

The U.S. Department of Education awarded Monte Vista Elementary with the Blue Ribbon designation due to its exceptional academic performance. The Blue Ribbon School Program acknowledges both public and private schools for their achievements in overall academic performance and for their efforts in closing achievement gaps among different student groups during assessments. Alongside Monte Vista, Lincoln Elementary in Gallup and Lydia Rippey Elementary in Aztec were also recognized with the Blue Ribbon designation.

Superintendent Scott Elder expressed his immense pride in the students and staff of Monte Vista Elementary for earning this prestigious designation. He stated that the school is truly a gem and is thrilled that it is receiving the recognition it deserves. Principal Cicely Ryan also shared her gratitude, emphasizing that the success of the school is a result of the strong community at Monte Vista Elementary, including teachers, students, administrators, parents, custodians, and bus drivers.

The U.S. Department of Education has named 353 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023. These schools receive recognition in one of two performance categories: Exemplary High-Performing Schools or Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools. Monte Vista Elementary's outstanding academic performance has placed it among the top schools in the nation, solidifying its reputation as an exemplary high-performing school.
