New Mexico State University (NMSU) recently held a 5K Color Fun Run organized by the Office of Experiential Learning. The event, which took place on September 9, aimed to promote community engagement among NMSU students and the broader Las Cruces community. According to a press release, the run successfully raised over $4,400 to support Camp Hope through the annual Tents to Rents Campaign.

Thanks to the support of community sponsors and vendors, including OEL, NMSU Foundation, Gym Magic, Little Steps Pediatrics, Adams Radio, and Pathology Consultants of New Mexico, all expenses for the 5K Color Fun Run were covered. The event saw the participation of 230 runners, as stated in the press release.

The proceeds from the 5K Color Fun Run will go towards operating Camp Hope and providing a safe environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. Nicole Martinez, the executive director of Mesilla Valley Community Hope, expressed her gratitude to NMSU, the Office of Experiential Learning, and all the participants for their support in making the event a success.

The run was made possible with the help of 47 volunteers, including 36 NMSU students from various organizations such as the Pre-Dental Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. NMSU Senior Program Specialist Alice Delgado and OEL Director Trish Leyba led the event, bringing together members of the Las Cruces community along with OEL staff.

OEL Director Trish Leyba expressed her appreciation for the Community of Hope's efforts in assisting those in need within the community. She also thanked the community partners who allowed the event to be marketed in their establishments, including Crunch Fitness, Sports Accessories, and Stay Fit Fitness, which greatly contributed to the event's success.
