UNM’s College of Nursing appoints new Assistant Dean of Professional Graduate Programs

UNM’s College of Nursing has recently appointed Gina C. Rowe, PhD, DNP, MPH, FNP-BC, PHCNS-BC, FNAP as their new Assistant Dean of Professional Graduate Programs. This announcement was made by UNM Health Sciences on September 6, 2023. According to a press release, Rowe brings a wealth of expertise in community-based primary care, research, serving underserved populations, and clinical education design to the role.

Prior to joining UNM, Gina C. Rowe served as a nursing graduate program coordinator at institutions such as Texas A&M University, the University of Maryland, and South Dakota State University. Her skill set includes curriculum standardization, the development of valuable student resources, and a strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity within nursing programs.

In a statement, Rowe expressed her interest in joining UNM, stating that the nursing graduate programs at the university are well-designed to meet the healthcare needs in New Mexico for more advanced practice nurses and nurse leaders. She also praised the innovative, ambitious, and diversity-minded approach of the UNM graduate programs.

The University of New Mexico College of Nursing is dedicated to improving the state of health in New Mexico and beyond. It serves as an educational platform for over 1,150 nursing students and holds the distinction of being one of just 115 Carnegie Classified R1 universities nationwide. Interim Dean Carolyn Montoya, PhD, RN, PNP-PC, FAANP, FAAN expressed excitement about Rowe's appointment, highlighting her experience as a clinical educator and nurse in managing chronic illness and providing treatment in rural and underserved areas. This appointment is seen as a valuable resource for graduate students and a success for the College of Nursing.
