New Mexico State University (NMSU) announced on Aug. 21 that three years ago, they introduced the Navigate platform, and presently, the Student Success team is focused on expanding the platform's functionalities and user base. Through the Navigate Student website, students can arrange appointments, access class schedules, connect with study partners and explore campus resources, according to a press release.

"We launched Navigate in March of 2020, and it really helped us communicate with students during the most critical time of the pandemic," said Renay Scott, vice president for Student Success.

Alongside the website, the personalized app called Navigate Student is available for download from both the Apple App Store and Google Play for Android devices. The Navigate platform is additionally used for early alerts, previously referred to as Quick Connect, facilitating faculty and staff to promptly communicate students' academic or personal issues to the relevant departments.

“But what Navigate does better than any platform out there is to create a network of care around students that can help us respond to a student’s holistic needs. It is now time to extend this network of care to service providers across NMSU,” Scott said, according to the release.

The Navigate Faculty and Staff website supports degree completion, improving student learning and accomplishment, and improving student retention. CAASS, Financial Aid, Aggie One Stop, Aggie Pathway, Campus Tutoring Services, Global Campus and Military and Veterans Program currently use Navigate.

“CAASS advisers were first in Navigate, but we were able to understand much more about our students’ lives when offices like Financial Aid and Aggie One Stop began using the platform,” said Center for Academic Advising and Student Support associate director Marissa Fowler.

“With Navigate, we can use polls to quickly assess student needs,” said Tony Marin, assistant vice president for Student Affairs. “We can measure student academic progress with success markers, which are benchmarks that correlate with degree completion. And we can evaluate the effectiveness of communication campaigns to achieve their objectives.”
