On July 25, the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs issued a press release announcing the upcoming Old Fort Lincoln Days event, scheduled for August 4th through the 6th. Visitors will have the chance to explore the historical significance of Lincoln, New Mexico, known as "The Most Dangerous Street in America," where Billy the Kid and other desperados once roamed.
"Old Lincoln Days is one of my favorite events," New Mexico Historic Sites Deputy Director Matt Barbour said.
According to a press release issued on July 25, the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs has announced the Old Fort Lincoln Days event, set to take place from August 4th to 6th. During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the historical significance of Lincoln, New Mexico, known as "The Most Dangerous Street in America," which was once frequented by infamous figures like Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett. There will be guided walks along the paths these Old West legends once walked while historians shed light on Lincoln's past. The event will also include activities like food, art, and cowboy archaeology, culminating each day with a gun sight performance of the “The Last Escape of Billy the Kid” pageant and evening performances by the Rockin’ “M” Wranglers on the Pageant Grounds according to a press release.
According to the press release, Matt Barbour, deputy director of NMHS said, “The town’s streets fill with visitors from near and far... people fascinated by Lincoln’s history. It’s also a terrific partnership between NMHS and the community of Lincoln—we all want to make sure the world knows the story of Lincoln County, and there’s almost no better opportunity than Old Lincoln Days.”
The New Mexico Historic Preservation Division (NMHPD) is organizing an Archaeology Fair as part of the Old Lincoln Days event. The fair will feature various activities and demonstrations, with participation from local, state, and private groups. Old Lincoln Days will be held from 9 AM to 5 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 9 AM to 3 PM on Sunday, with an admission fee of $7 for adults, while kids, veterans, and active military members and their families get in free according to the press release.
