Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham expressed her condolences and shared a statement on the passing of former state Sen. Carroll Leavell, R-N.M.
She extended her thoughts and prayers to his family, offering support and comfort during this challenging period, according to a June 27 news release from her office.
"My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” Grisham said in the release.
Leavell, who reportedly served as a dedicated public servant, represented southeast New Mexico in the Legislature from 1997 to 2018, the release reported. Grisham recognized his notable contributions and his service to the state and its residents.
“Sen. Leavell was a staunch advocate for the communities of southeastern New Mexico, including Eddy and Lea counties," Grisham said in the news release. "He passed legislation responsible for bolstering health care and public safety in his district and was an integral part of securing funding to repair the Carlsbad Brine Well."
Grisham highlighted his support for the communities of southeastern New Mexico, particularly Eddy and Lea counties, according to the news release. The governor credited Leavell for his instrumental role in passing legislation that enhanced healthcare services and public safety in his district.
Furthermore, the senator's efforts in securing funding for the repair of the Carlsbad Brine Well were recognized as vital for the region, the release said.
"Our state is a better place because of his 20-plus years of service in the Legislature and his willingness to work across the aisle to find solutions in the best interest of the people of New Mexico," Grisham said in the release.
Republican Party of New Mexico also shared condolences in a June 26 release.
"Senator Carroll H. Leavell was my friend in business and politics," RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce said in the release. "He lived an incredible life and gave 21 years of public service to New Mexico. He will be greatly missed. I offer my deepest sympathies and prayers to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."
