The Albuquerque Sunport is asking prospective vendors to apply for its airport concessions program. The Sunport is undergoing a multi-year renovation project and has published a request for proposals (RIF) for changes to the food and drink program. The Sunport said this opportunity represents a chance for area businesses to share in the future of the Sunport by submitting ideas for food and drink service.
“A key component of [the project] is making local brands a part of our reimagined Sunport to showcase the very best products the Land of Enchantment has to offer," Richard McCurley, Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque told KRQE. “We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with vendors and provide world-class dining and shopping offerings to residents and visitors alike.”
Proposals for food and drink concessions will be accepted until June 30, 2023. For information about the RFP process, visit this link. The Sunport plans to examine all the ideas submitted and publish an RFP for retail offerings this summer.
The food and beverage service will be a central part of the revamped infrastructure of the Sunport. The extensive renovation includes an overhauled TSA passenger screening area, behind-the-scenes mechanical upgrades, and new food and retail areas after security. Construction began in November 2022 with a target to complete major portions of the construction late next year.
Manny Manriquez, Aviation Department Innovation and Commercial Development Manager said, “We are thrilled to kick off 2023 and the start of major construction by hosting this virtual forum for potential new partners interested in operating at the Sunport, We are engaging proactively with the local business community to create more opportunities for New Mexicans as we reimagine our entire culinary and retail concessions program.”
Manriquez said, “The redevelopment of our concessions program is a major part of the ‘Dream of Flight’ terminal renovation project, and we are eager to start this process. This is a once-in-a-generation chance for local businesses to help us shape the future of the customer experience at our beloved Sunport.”
The City of Albuquerque has been a big proponent of the project. Mayor Tim Keller said, “We are committed to making sure that the Sunport keeps its legendary distinct character, and that includes the food and retail offerings. We welcome over five million passengers to New Mexico each year, and we look forward to having more of our local flavor on display for everyone who passes through.”
