The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has announced sobriety checkpoints and DWI patrols are being utilized to catch those who are driving impaired.

The checkpoints will be in force through the month of February.

“The Sheriff’s Office strongly believes in the importance of saving lives through proactive strategies and encourages citizens to take an active role in their community and report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a Feb. 1 press release. “We need your help; if you consume alcohol or drugs, do not drive, and have a plan to get home safely.”

The release added that deputies will be looking for people driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, with the goal of reducing the number of impaired driving-related crashes and fatalities on the roadways. Those who consume alcohol are urged to use a rideshare service or sober driver. Citizens can also take an active role in their community by calling 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.
