The 13th year of Comic Con in Albuquerque was the largest, most attended Comic Con ever for the city.
“We've never had this many people and it shows,” Jim Burleson, Albuquerque Comic Con promoter, told KOAT during the event. “When we first started, we sold 10,000 tickets the first year and we've grown exponentially every year. We feel like this is definitely going to be a success for us and for the city of Albuquerque.”
Two years ago, the event was nearly canceled because of COVID-19, and there were concerns about whether Comic Con would be able to bounce back; Burleson said. This year’s event, which took place Jan. 13-15, was projected to bring in over $3 million. The event sold more than 30,000 pre-sale tickets, which does not include the thousands of people who paid at the door.
“They love this, they want to be a part of it and they love Albuquerque, which for me is the greatest feeling,” Burleson said. “That they love the city that we live in.”
The event organizers also noted that they had Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies and Albuquerque police officers to make sure everything ran smoothly.
