20 New Mexico teachers honored at bowl game for 'important role' they play in students' lives

During a timeout at the recent New Mexico Bowl, 20 teachers throughout the state were awarded $1,000 each for their work with students and classroom dedication. 

The holiday gifts were sponsored by PNM, the New Mexico Bowl and the College Football Playoff Foundation. The teachers were nominated by their peers.

“This is near and dear to my heart as both my parents were teachers,” said Don Tarry, president and chief operating officer of PNM Resources in a news release. “I personally know the important role teachers play in shaping a child’s life and building a strong foundation for the future of New Mexico. I want to personally thank each of these outstanding teachers for going the extra yard.”

The teachers who received the awards work at Santa Rosa Elementary, Goddard High School, Desert Willow Elementary, Murray Elementary, North Valley Elementary, Quemado Elementary, Des Moines High School, Alamogordo High School, To’Hajiilee Community School, Taos Municipal Schools, Eldorado High School, Freedom High School, Duranes Elementary School, Dolores Gonzales Elementary School, Cochiti Elementary and Middle School, New Futures High School, Pajarito Elementary School, Milagro Middle School, Amy Biehl Community School, and Independence High School.

The teachers were nominated for their outstanding work with students and their dedication to ensuring New Mexico's children are on a path to bright futures.
