Carpenters Union Local 1319 celebrated its 120th anniversary recently with a holiday luncheon at the New Mexico Carpenters Union Training Center. The union, which is older than the state of New Mexico, was formed in 1902 and still boasts 1,500 members.
"I think it's very important to recognize the longevity and the tradition the Carpenters Union holds here in New Mexico," Rosendo Najar, president of Local 1319 told KOAT. "We are responsible for building New Mexico. We continue to build New Mexico, and we look forward to continuing the tradition and building New Mexico for the future."
Najar said the union not only creates jobs with good wages and benefits but also boosts the local economy and improves the quality of life for all.
"We hope New Mexicans will continue to look at [the union] for what it is, which is a brotherhood," Najar said. "We care about each other, we care about what we do and we care about the community we live in."
