An RV campground in New Mexico has made the list of ghostly getaways in the National Travel Blog.
The Holy Ghost Campground located northeast of Santa Fe made the travel blog list as a haunted RV campground.
Research of the campground revealed a lot of interesting details, Rachel Heseltine of the RV Trader Blog said.
“They do say folks have seen odd occurrences, such as disappearing state troopers, shadows moving in the trees, the sound of chanting in the forest,” she told KRQE recently.
There are two contrasting legends as to why the campgrounds are haunted. One is that a priest killed Native Americans from the pueblo during the late 17th century. The other version is that Native Americans from the pueblo killed the priest.
In 2019, Outside Magazine also listed the campground as one of the 15 Most Haunted Campgrounds in the United States. Being featured on these unique lists adds to the campground's appeal, especially during seasons when people are traveling and looking for adventure.
“I do think it fun when you get put on a list like that,” Julie Ann Overton, Public Affairs officer at the Santa Fe National Forest, told KRQE. “It can be fun for folks looking for something out of the ordinary to check out a so-called haunted campground.”
Most of the campground is “first come, first serve” and $8 a night.
