Emily Butcher and Jesse Lamb stopped in Albuquerque recently on their way to California thinking the U-Haul carrying all their belongings was safely guarded while they slept for the night.
But the couple awakened at the Ramada Plaza on Menaul to find the U-Haul carrying their life’s possessions had been stolen. To their horror, Butcher and Lamb learned the surveillance cameras at the hotel didn’t have video of the robbery and, clearly, the security wasn’t adequate. The couple reported the crime to Albuquerque police and the hotel, but they feel hopeless.
“The footage ended up being useless,” Lamb told KRQE. “It’s all incredibility frustrating because when you see a sign that says security is on guard and the premise is under video surveillance you assume a certain safety.”
The couple is moving from Missouri to Bakersfield, where Lamb will attend medical school; the KRQE report said. Thieves robbing them of everything they own is devastating for them. Many of the items in the U-Haul were family heirlooms that are irreplaceable.
“Things that have been passed down, a blanket my grandmother crocheted for me," Butcher told KRQE. "All in all, it’s probably worth ten bucks, but for me, it’s priceless because my grandmother made it for me.”
