Brittani Torres, supervisor of the Los Duranes Community Center, is excited about the center's summer teen event series.

"They were amazing events," she told KRQE. "We reached a lot of teens throughout the Albuquerque area, so we're hoping to bring that back."

COVID put the Albuquerque Teen Night event series on hiatus. It will return on July 8. Teenagers from age 12 to 19 are invited to have fun and spend time together in a safe space.

Four Teen Night events are scheduled in the community, KRQE reported. The July 8 event at the Sunport Pool will feature music, games, and swimming. The July 15 event is an evening of crafts and movies at the Balloon Museum. A karaoke and sports event will be held at the Herman Sanchez Community Center on July 22. A game night will be held at the Alamosa Community Center on July 29.

"The city is faced with several challenges throughout the city, and we want to be that first line of defense to help the city grow with our teens and to give them a safe place to come and hang out and be themselves and try new things and have different experiences," Torres said. "We want to be able to provide a fun and safe environment for them."

Registration is required for all Teen Night events, which are free to attend. You can find more information and register at the city of Albuquerque's website.
