Some fireworks sales have been limited in Four Corners because fire officials fear the current weather conditions could prove to be a perfect storm for a wildfire to spark and spread quickly.

The area is currently at a high risk for fire, and San Juan County Fire and Rescue has worked to do everything they can to prevent fires from happening in the first place, a recent KOB 4 report said.

"Right now we are in extreme fire danger, we seeing it in the fuel conditions, our live fuels are stressed, and your dead fuels are bone dry and if we do get a start, the potential of it going big is going to be high," David Vega, San Juan County Fire and Rescue deputy chief of Operations, told KOB 4.

New Mexico is currently experiencing a drought that's causing the ground to be dry, and high winds would only fuel a fire, the report said.

Some local governments have limited the sale of certain fireworks in an effort to prevent a spark that could cause an accidental fire that might grow out of control.

Fire officials in New Mexico have asked people who live in the state to keep the community safe by sacrificing a little fun, the report said. Another wildfire would only add to the strain of resources, since firefighters are already battling wildfires in other parts of the state.
