A Mora County woman who will be turning 105-years-old this year has lost her home in the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire, but the devastating news isn't keeping her spirits down.

Marquita Gallegos has dealt with a number of challenges in her life spanning more than a century, a recent KOB 4 report said.

"She had a rough life, they were fairly poor and when we were growing they were starting their life, and little by little they built up, she's coming a long ways," Elsie Gallegos, Marquita's daughter, told KOB 4.

"Oh, it has a lot of memories," Elsie said, continuing about the house. "A lot of memories were lost."

Gallegos has lived in Mora County her entire life, the report said. It's also where she raised her 17 children; and even though her home is gone, she is happy to be reunited with her family in Los Lunas where she is currently staying.

Gallegos also lost a home to fire back in the 1960's when her house was destroyed by an electrical fire, the KOB 4 report said. This time, it was because of the spreading wildfire. The Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak fire continues to force more people to evacuate from their homes.
