An Albuquerque nonprofit recently was recognized by KOB 4 News for making sure that local women have their purses filled with daily essentials.
Started in 2016 by Jane Bickelman, Pursonalities Plus fills gently used purses with toiletries and other basic items before sending them to shelters to be provided to women who are homeless, seeking sheltering from domestic abuse, or recently out of prison, according to KOB 4 News.
“Someone said, 'it's just a purse.' But you have no idea what it means to women who have limited or nothing," Bickelman told KOB 4 news.
"From shampoo and conditioner, lipstick, brushes and combs, jewelry, head to toe, anything a woman would need," Janette Wiggins, a Pay it 4ward nominator, told KOB 4 News. "They're just over the moon with joy and thankfulness. It's very rewarding for all of us who are involved in this."
For her good works, Bickelman received the Pay it 4ward and received $400 from KOB 4 News.
"She has a heart for these women and she is literally a blessing from God to this community," Wiggins said. "She deserves $40,000 for what she has done."
The nonprofit has provided more than 1,000 purses during Christmas. For Mother's Day it has partnered with local police officers to deliver hundreds of purses to dozens of facilities around the Albuquerque area.
