A fundraiser sponsored by a local Hobbs company raised more than $55,000 for the families impacted by the crash that killed nine people, including seven members of the University of Southwest golf team.

Energy Staffing and Services organized the fundraiser that solicited donations from the community. The funds will go to the families of the victims and medical bills for two survivors, according to a KRQE report.  Any additional funds will go toward a scholarship program for golf students at the University of Southwest.

Natalie Gladden of ESS was the main organizer behind the fundraiser, looking to help those impacted by the tragedy that occurred when a truck driven by a 13-year-old veered into the path of a van carrying members of the University of Southwest men's and women's golf team.

“It’s just been awesome to see Lea County come out like they have,’ Gladden told KRQE.  “The list just goes on and on, of the people who have come forward in Lea County.”

Mike Denney, the owner of ESS, said his company will continue to support the community. “We’re probably a drop in the bucket of what they’re gonna need but we’re gonna do everything we can to help,” Denney told KRQE, adding he has gotten support from across the country. “It’s not just us, it’s everybody in the community kind of coming together and helping.”

Killed on the USW team bus were coach Tyler James, 26, Mauricio Sanchez, 19, Travis Garcia, 19, Jackson Zinn, 22, Karisa Raines, 21, Laci Stone, 18, and Tiago Sousa, 18. In the pickup truck, Heinrich Siemens, 38, and a 13-year old passenger were killed. USW students Dayton Price and Hayden Underhill are recovering from severe injuries. James of Hobbs was the only victim from New Mexico.
