Bernalillo Co. Animal Care and Resource Center hopes to find a home for all of its pets by temporarily waiving all adoption fees  amid an accelerated influx arriving at the shelter, according to KRQE.

“We are just jam-packed,” Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center said. “So we have pets of all ages, cats and dogs."

With a heightened capacity of over 200%, the center’s staff is “working hard to remain open to the public.” The agency will continue offering free adoption throughout the month of January.

“We have a variety of pets looking for their FURRever home,” a Facebook post released by the center read. “Our staff has worked extremely hard to make sure to keep the shelter open to the public during this time."

Individuals interested in taking a pet home can visit the center  Thursday through Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and schedule an appointment for an adoption viewing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. An online database showcasing all adoptable animals has also been made available alongside an appointment interest card.

The business is also hiring additional staff to help with the duties, which have now increased due to the over-capacity. Despite being under-staffed, the center is implementing strategies to ensure all care-related duties are fulfilled.

“With no computer systems, it has been a team effort and our pets are excited to have the chance for adoption,” the post continued.

Applications are now being accepted for animal care technician positions, as well as general assistants to avoid a decrease in the quality of care, activities, and adoptions.
