The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team knows what to expect when they face off against No.4 seed BYU in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

“A long time BYU ran this conference,” UNM head coach Heather Dyche told KRQE.com. “BYU, Utah, there’s a couple of other teams that left. They’ve been unbelievable since and they have this really beautiful field. They get huge crowds. I think all that stuff makes it feel like the NCAA tournament.”

Saturday’s tilt in Provo marks the first time the two programs have clashed since BYU left the Mountain West more than a decade ago. BYU comes into the match boasting the top offense in the game, averaging over three goals per game and having bagged 62 overall in their 18 games.

“It just seems like they’re a great team and a great atmosphere to play,” UNM forward Jadyn Edwards added. “We got them. So, I’m really excited to be able to play them, play a different school, a bigger school, and have all of those fans.”
